The purpose of aawaz is to increase awareness of Indian culture in an
American setting. The meaning of "Aawaz" is voice and the purpose of
Aawaz is to help students, primarily undergraduate students, to realize
that while we have a voice, students must realize that that voice must
represent a plurality. We must come to the realization that while we
live in the United States we have to realize that we are still Indian
and we must represent that facet of our background. We provide an
association for students where they can network among other Indian
American students at UNCC. We want students to be aware of the fact
that there are a plethora of other students at UNCC and we can still
represent our Indian Culture in the midst of a conflicting American
culture. We want students to realize that while cultural relativity is
ever present we can still overcome that adversity and be successful in
realizing what we truly have.
